Condition monitoring for marine engines and propulsion systems
Helps detect equipment operating deviations, investigate possible causes of increased fuel consumption and plan maintenance using data. The system monitors engines and individual cylinders, shaft power and propeller efficiency indicators.
What VIB360 monitors
Engine and cylinder condition
Engine diagnostic indicators, injection deviations, and signs of increased friction and impacts in bearings and moving parts.
Shaft power
Power and rotational speed readings under different operating conditions.
Propeller performance
Indicators of reduced efficiency and analysis of engine and propulsion system interaction.
Peak cylinder pressure
Monitor readings using the corresponding system module.
How it supports operations
Identify deviations
Diagnostic indicators help identify cylinders and operating parameters that need closer attention.
Investigate increased fuel consumption
Analysis of engine and propulsion operation helps identify signs of inefficiency and areas for further investigation.
Support maintenance decisions
Condition data helps determine whether further diagnostics or continued monitoring are needed. Comparing readings helps assess changes after maintenance.
Application example: bulk carrier
From equipment monitoring to specific findings
The VIB360 report dated 10 September 2025 presents analysis of the main engine, propulsion system and auxiliary diesel generator under different operating conditions.
Equipment monitored
Main engine
DOOSAN MAN B&W S50MC-C
8,700 kW at 120 rpm.
Auxiliary diesel generator
DOOSAN-MAN DIESEL 5L23/30H
620 kW at 720 rpm.
Detecting an injection fault
On 6 August 2025, fuel supply to cylinder No. 1 of the auxiliary diesel engine was deliberately shut off under the chief engineer’s supervision. VIB360 monitored parameters in real time and detected the injection deviation.
This demonstrates detection of an intentionally induced cylinder fault under the conditions of that test.
Changes after maintenance
On 24 July, the crew replaced the fuel pumps of cylinders No. 1 and No. 2 and the injector of cylinder No. 1. The report compares diagrams dated 18 July, 6 August and 4 September 2025.
The authors noted smoother and more uniform angular velocity after maintenance within the load range examined. The first two observations were at 40% load and the third at 50%.
Monitoring an individual cylinder
Although injection indicators were generally satisfactory at the examined loads above 40%, small deviations were noted in cylinder No. 4.
The report did not recommend intervention at that stage. The authors suggested continued engine monitoring at higher loads.
Checking peak pressure readings
On 26 August 2025, the crew, led by the chief engineer, took reference peak pressure measurements in every cylinder of diesel generator No. 2 and compared them with VIB360 readings. The presentation includes the chief engineer’s confirmation of the check.
Customer verification of the main engine peak pressure module was still pending at the report date.
These results relate to the specific vessel, equipment and test conditions. The report does not provide a before-and-after comparison of actual fuel consumption demonstrating savings from installing the system.

GLAZAR MARINE
The design model — on the real vessel
GLAZAR Marine is an augmented-reality software suite for designer’s supervision and technical support during ship construction.
The system overlays the design 3D model on the physical object at a 1:1 scale on a compatible smartphone or tablet. This helps check equipment placement, compare completed installation with the design and identify deviations.
What it helps you do
Check placement before installation
Place virtual equipment models within the actual space and check their position relative to installed equipment, walls, bulkheads and other structures.
Compare design and completed work
Overlay the design model on the real environment to visually compare the planned and actual positions of equipment and service runs.
Measure and record deviations
Use a virtual ruler for augmented-reality measurements and record identified discrepancies electronically.
Access technical information on site
View model element attributes during a vessel walkthrough. Show or hide individual layers to inspect the relevant structures.
Attribute viewing and layer controls depend on the relevant information being present in the source model.
How an inspection works
01 — Prepare the model
Upload the 3D model in the computer control panel, prepare an interactive scene and set the marker position used to align it with the physical object.
02 — Align on board
Place the marker at the corresponding position on the object. Open the prepared scene and point the smartphone or tablet camera at the marker.
03 — Compare and measure
The screen displays the model aligned with the real environment. Check the relative positions of objects, take measurements and view available technical data.
Who GLAZAR Marine supports
Design bureaus
Identify and record installation deviations from design documentation during designer’s supervision.
Shipbuilders
Check equipment placement before installation and conformity with the design as work progresses.
Shipowners and customer supervision teams
Visually inspect vessel construction and compartment outfitting, and retrieve technical information about objects from the model.
Deployment and operation
Offline access
Model assemblies saved on the device in advance remain available offline. The documentation provides for subsequent synchronisation with the server.
Data hosting
Deployment options include the developer’s cloud server or the customer’s private server.
Preparing for deployment
Operation requires a prepared 3D model, configured software and a compatible mobile device. The solution configuration depends on project requirements.
